Sunset color Songea sapphires set off the sparkle of this double leaf pendant in recycled fine silver. The natural sapphires in shades of poppy red, bright orange and soft purple are just stunning. The leaves are resting on a curved vine bail with granulation accents. The leaves are viburnum leaves from my garden. I paint the silver to the back side of the leaves. fired in a kiln, the leaf burns off leaving the fabulous leaves in pure .999 silver.
This pendant measures 48 mm or just under 2 inches long by 28.5 mm wide.
A note on precious metal clay:
ArtClay silver is a recycled product that consists of fine silver particles suspended in an organic binder. The clay can be worked like other forms of clay, sculpted to almost any shape you desire. The product is then fired at an extremely high temperature, either by kiln or torch. The binder burns away resulting in a pure silver (.999) piece. The silver is reclaimed from such sources as 35mm film and medical and industrial leftovers. No strip mining necessary.
