This is my new favorite designs, a handmade fine silver open lotus flower pendant with a mandala texture, 22k gold accents and a stunning Tahitian pearl drop. I gave the back side a stippled texture, my makers mark and the piece has a slightly domed curve. The gold is fused to the fine silver using an ancient Korean technique called Keum Boo. The Indian style floral links also have the 22k gold accents. The chain was made with sterling silver cable chain, gold filled wire, tiny Thai Hill Tribes silver beads, and tiny 24k gold charlottes. 14k gold filled lobster clasp with a 1 inch extender chain.
This necklace is 18 inches long. The pendant is 48 mm x 34 mm, or just under 2 inches long. The fabulous pear shaped saltwater pearl is 14 mm x 9.5 mm.
A note on precious metal clay: ArtClay silver is a recycled product that consists of fine silver particles suspended in an organic binder. The clay can be worked like other forms of clay, sculpted to almost any shape you desire. The product is then fired at an extremely high temperature, either by kiln or torch. The binder burns away resulting in a pure silver (.999) piece. The silver is reclaimed from such sources as 35mm film and medical and industrial leftovers. No strip mining necessary.
